WEATHER STORIES

Lightning

October 12, 2018

Strong thunderstorms trained across Southern California in response to a deep cutoff low drawing in moisture from Tropical Depression Sergio over nw Mexico. Encountered first storms in Murrieta while traveling back from San Diego and enjoyed the rest of the storm activity from my home. While storm activity became very active in the eastern deserts from Indio to Blythe I opted to not chase this event.

July 15-16, 2006 - Lake Elsinore, CA - Monsoon MCS

Monsoon thunderstorms in the form of an MCS broke out across the Inland Empire region of Southern California during the evening and lasting through the predawn hours the next day. The MCS began in western Arizona during the day moving west across the Colorado River at Blythe and across the deserts of Riverside County. The MCS continued west-northwest over Orange and Los Angeles Counties and farther northward until daybreak.

September 19-20, 2005 - Lake Elsinore, CA - Monsoon thunderstorms

Monsoon thunderstorms broke out across the Inland Empire region of Southern California during the evening lasting through the night and until the late morning the next day. Storms trained across the area within a zone of diffluence ahead of a stationary upper level cutoff low off the coast of SoCal. Lots of spectacular lightning from 11pm until dawn. Sat in my backyard the entire night watching.
