CHASE ARCHIVES

Monsoon Season 2008

An average monsoon season. My best chase day was July 12. Most of the events were short lived (1 to 2 days) during weekdays limiting my ability to chase due to my work schedule.

July 12, 2008 - Adelanto, CA

The best chase of the season. Severe thunderstorms pounded the high desert area in Barstow and Adelanto in response to a weak cutoff low southwest of San Diego. I decided to stage in Adelanto and wait for storms to fire along the El Mirage CZ and move toward me. A severe rotating storm did fire between Barstow and Adelanto around 7:30pm with amazing structure and intense lightning.

August 3, 2008 - Lake Elsinore/Temecula, CA

Not much of a 'chase' per say. Storms fired along the San Jacinto Mtns as I attempted to target the south end of the line eastof Temecula. Storms were short lived and after some photographic opportunities in Lake Elsinore I abandonded the chase after arriving in Temecula.

August 15, 2008 - Apple Valley, CA

Storms triggered along the Lucerne Valley CZ. I staged in Apple Valley with nothing more than observing a stationary line of non-severe storms along the boundary zone.

August 30, 2008 - Beaumont, CA

Northeast end of ECZ fired with a storm on the northeast side of Beaumont. Some weak rotation was noted.

September 16, 2008 - Mojave Desert, CA

Chased the high desert zone from Victorville to Barstow. Classic El Mirage CZ initiation from Phelan northward. Severe storm just east of Barstow.

September 29, 2008 - Fontana/Hesperia, CA

Last chase of the season. Targeted the high desert area around Hesperia. First observered storm development from Fontana and then ended the chase in the western side of Hesperia with non-severe thunderstorms.
