Monsoon Season

2017

July 24, 2017 - Mojave Desert, CA

My first chase of the season. Intercepted a very strong sub-severe storm along I-40 near Essex. Lots of amazing lightning.

August 1, 2017 - Lake Elsinore, CA

A powerful severe thunderstorm produced a microburst over northern sections of Lake Elsinore that caused significant damage to the community of Horsethief Canyon. Down trees and power lines, and flash flooding that trapped several vehicles and prompted one rescue along Hostettler Rd.

August 3, 2017 - Hemet/Menifee, CA

Intercepted first storm east of Hemet as if formed over the San Jacinto Mountains foothills. Second storm was intercepted along the ECZ over Menifee which produced a microburst that could be seen as a descending bubble of rain.

August 28, 2017 - Lake Elsinore, CA

Intercepted a thunderstorm over Lake Elsinore that went briefly severe over my neighborhood.

August 31, 2017 - Lake Elsinore, CA

Intercepted a severe thunderstorm over Lake Elsinore and tracked it north into Temescal Valley.

September 2, 2017 - Lake Elsinore, CA

Not technically a chase. A severe thunderstorm forms over my house near Lake Elsinore.

September 3, 2017 - Temescal Valley/Corona, CA

Thunderstorms spawned by tropical depression Lidia skirted Southern California and brought sufficient low shear to provide a rare opportunity for brief supercell structure over Corona.

September 8, 2017 - Desert Center/Blythe, CA

Severe thunderstorms rolled across the southeast California desert between Desert Center and Blythe. Highlights included brief rotation, a microburst that flipped a bigrig, flooding of the desert floor,  a haboob duststorm, and a dramatic shelf. It was some of the most visually striking structure I have ever seen during a monsoon chase.
