Great Plains 2011

6 days on the road with 3 chaseable days in Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Texas. No tornadoes.

June 23, 2011 - Western Oklahoma

Intercepted a severe thunderstorm right over the town of Woodward. It eventually merged with more storms to its southeast which lined out over Seiling. No tornado warnings.

June 26, 2011 - Eastern Nebraska

Woke up in York to a moderate risk. However dense fog limited surface convection in the risk area, and a line segment had formed in the late morning in central NE between Valentine and North Platte which was racing eastward at speeds up to 60mph at times. The segment went toirnado warned several times as it approached Albion. I intercepted the line 10 miles west of Albion, and paced it all the way back through Saint Edward and eventually abandoned the line in Columbus. Around sunset the tail-end down near Beatrice was showing more discrete convection, so I attempted an intercept and came up on it near Beatrice after dark. Storm went tornado warned east of Beatrice.

June 27, 2011 - Amarillo, TX

Intercepted severe thunderstorms around 10pm CDT while en route back home. Storm over Vega was dropping nickle-sized hail. All storms were producing intense vivid lightning.
