CHASE ARCHIVES

2018

January 9, 2018 - Corona/Dana Point, CA

A significant Pacific system rolled through Southern California with mudflows in the Canyon Fire burn area of Corona. Brief rotating storms occurred in the San Gabriel Valley with funnel clouds sighted, however I was not in position to see them.

February 27, 2018 - Inland Empire, CA

Hail, graupel, snow, and rotating storms around the Inland Empire of Southern California during a deep cold core low setup. Locations include  Perris,  French Valley, Winchester, Quail Valley, and Lake Elsinore.

May 2, 2018 - Mojave Desert, CA

A departing closed low in Southern California produced afternoon thunderstorms along convergence boundaries in the Mojave Desert. Storms were triggered along the El Mirage Convergence Zone west of Adelanto, and over Victorville and Barstow.

October 3, 2018 - Colorado Desert, CA

Tropical storm Rosa crossed northern Baja just south of San Diego and its remnant circulation moved into southern Arizona. Its proximity triggered widespread thunderstorms in the Colorado Desert  region of Southern California. I attempted to intercept the western-most edge of storms in Indio, chasing them all the way along I-10 to near Blythe. Lots of frequent and vivid lightning. This event was a hybrid transition event where a Pacific trough interacted with an approaching hurricane and receding monsoonal flow.
